Library Construction Committee
January 5, 2009

Present from the committee: Kelly Collins, Pam Czekanski, Panny Gerken, Joel Lindsay, Roland Ochsenbein, John Rodenhiser, Mickie Simpson, Bill Strapko. Absent: Chris Rogers.
Also present: Burt Shnitzler
A quorum being assembled, Roland called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m.
This meeting was called to consider Change Estimate #3 issued by M. O’Connor Contracting on December 22, 2008. This document is an estimate to add back Alternate #1 (two smaller south-facing dormers) at a cost of $14,393.00.
An examination of the bid documents revealed that the dormers have little impact on the interior, except in the form of taller windows (with dormers) vs. shorter (without).
Discussion followed. In summary: those who spoke in favor of the dormers felt that they enhance the design and let in more light, while those opposed felt the money would be better spent on a more prominent detail (e.g., millwork) and the amount of extra light would be negligible for the price.
Pam pointed out that the committee previously voted to approve the design with dormers, but the architect made them an alternate prior to issuing the bid documents and without consulting the committee.
Pam motioned that the committee vote to accept Change Estimate #3 in the amount of $14,393.00. Panny seconded. A majority approved the motion (Yes: Collins, Czekanski, Gerken, Lindsay, Ochsenbein; No: Rodenhiser, Simpson, Strapko).
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 6 p.m.
The next committee meeting will be on Thursday, January 8 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
